Living nativity gospel , the traditional events of Varese

Once again this year will take place two of the most awaited events in the city during Christmas Time

The events dedicated to Christmas are becoming more and more. In fact once again this year  the city of Varese will host the living nativity and the gospel concert, as has happened for many years. The first event will take place on Friday 21st December and it will be directed by Andrea Chiodi, director and actor from Varese, who has been dealing for 13 years with the script and the direction of Varese’s living nativity, creating an out-and-out theatrical performance that recalls Christmas traditions.

“ It’s always a new adventure that I accept with great pleasure every year. This year, as it happens always more frequently in theatres, we’ve decided to gather together the ideas of the youths that are taking part in the event, to choose the best ones and to write the scenario of the play. The outcome is a beautiful performance, which has been coordinated by ca. 500  boy scouts of the Aggs Varese association, who once again this year are going to be the actors of the play” explained Chiodi.

The event will take place in the San Vittore basilica at 5pm, but at 3pm already, in the square outside the church, people can enjoy the story of the birth of Jesus with a very evocative staging and  performance. Moreover, many actors and actress from Varese will take part in the play in the basilica.  “ We’re very happy about this collaboration and we have to thank the over 100 volunteers, who every year collaborate for the production of this play, both in the staging and the organization.”

The other “traditional” event, as the municipal Councillor for Culture Simone Longhini explained, is that of gospel songs. As a matter of fact, once again this year Andrea Caravati will conduct the “Greensleeves Gospel Choir” in two Christmas concerts. On Friday 28th December at 9pm, at the San Vittore basilica (free entry), the Greensleeves Gospel Choir and the children of the Blooming Kids will delight the audience with traditional songs. Again in San Vittore square the Solevoci association propose another event on Monday 24th December, “Suoni e luci 2012”: On Christmas’s Eve from 5 pm until the Midnight Mass, the square will be animated by projections of light on the façade of the basilica and  by Christmas music.”

Moreover, the activity proposed also at the castle of Masnago doesn’t have to be forgotten. The museum is opened every Sunday, on St. Stephen’s day and on the 6th of January.  For children from 4 to 11 years old, visits and workshops have been planned: On Saturday 29th December “ Sacro Monte Pop Up”, a walk among the views hosted by the castle and then the realisation of an original pop up card! On Saturday 5th January the workshop is called “ un castello innevato”, to know more about the ancient structure of the castle and of the tower: What would happen if we imagined it covered with snow? (from 3.30pm to 5pm 6 euro to visit, 1 euro entry for children, free entry for chaperons). For the “older” on Sunday 30th December is proposed the workshop “ Nuvolone a Varese,la III e la V Cappella” with happy hour and break. During Christmas holidays an afternoon to the castle can be organised for children and their friends!  Optional proposals- minimum 10 children- 5 euro+ 1 euro
