Indeed, over the party’s first week, the best bunches produced in the year by the farmers of Cantello are judged. The award of the year 2013 has gone to Giacomo Mazza, (who was awarded by the Mayor of Cantello, Gunnar Vincenzi), one of the five “great producers” of the village with the Catellas, the Brusas, the Bianchis and the Bajs. However, only three of them have taken part in the 2013 edition.
The Mazza farm business was also awarded with the special prize for the biggest bunches of asparagus (here they are in the pictures: in this case it was Giacomo Mazza’s son, Stefano, who took the prize). The winning bunch of asparagus weighed over 2 kg (4.4 lb) and was made of only 10 asparagus, each one of which weighed more than 200 g. Second place in this peculiar contest went to the farm business of Fabrizio Brusa (who received the prize from Gianmaria Baj Rossi, the president of the local organization Pro Loco of Cantello); third place went to Angelo Bianchi, who was awarded by Pasquale Gervasini, the president of Confagricoltura (General Confederation for Italian Agriculture).
In the meantime the celebration goes on. Despite the changeable weather and the rain during the past days, many people profited from their cuisine, which was mostly based on the best products of Cantello: asparagus risotto and asparagus with eggs. After the dinner on 19 May, where there were also music and dancing, the “restaurant” will reopen next weekend, starting from Friday. Among the events of next week, one that was not scheduled and that will be held on Sunday, 26, is to be pointed out: the cooking show, which will take place from 11:00 to 12:00, will be based on the asparagus and performed by the cuisine master from the cooking TV show “La prova del cuoco”, Sergio Barzetti.
