The environment was more like that of a family than a company, in the everyday work, and through the large and small acts of generosity, like that of Piero Macchi, the founder of Enoplastic, a company that began in 1957, that today is a leader in the production of capsules, stoppers and innovative seals for the wine industry; today, the company, which is continually growing and is dedicated to technological innovation, has about 280 employees, 150 machines and 4 branches in Spain, New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

Piero Macchi was an enlightened businessman, who had a passion for machinery and good wine, who created a large company, and who made a wonderful (and unexpected) Christmas present to his employees, who he considered part of his extended family rather than simple workers.

Piero Macchi, who passed away last July, at the age of 87, wanted to make one final, great gesture, to those who had been by his side all these years. It was to be a tangible gesture, gifts of cash that varied in accordance with the years of service to the company, totalling about €1.5 million, accompanied by a touching letter from Carla, Piero’s wife of 65 years.

It was the employees themselves who contacted us, to tell us of the great surprise they found on returning from their Christmas holidays.

The businessman had dedicated his life to his passion for machinery; the longest-serving employees, who had grown up with him in the company, first in Casbeno and then in Bodio Lomnago, where today, there is the heart of the whole production, describe him as “a determined man, with strong values, and with a unique sense of belonging to his company. He believed in the value of his work, and he recognised the value of everyone working together to achieve a common result. Piero was an inventor, an innovator: he operated the machines, he created new ones, he had ideas and inventiveness. We always considered ourselves one big family, and this Christmas present is a sign of all of this.”

Today, the company is led by Giovanna Macchi and Michele Moglia, who are the managing directors, together with Michele’s brother, Andrea, and by the new Chairman, Samo Kalin. It is a company in which whole families work, where anyone who retires can put forward a relative to take their place, where there is a strict ethical code, where great attention is placed on the safety and wellbeing of the employees. And where there is belief in the future, and investments are made in the people, also with acts of generosity, like the one that Piero Macchi wanted to make to his employees, with maximum discretion, but with great attention to people, who are worth much more than a machine.
