The ancient pilgrimage route passes also through Varese

The province of Varese joins the European network of the ancient pilgrimage routes.
On April, 21^st the Via Francisca in Lukmanier Pass, an international project that started one year ago and that on this day came true, was presented to the press.

We are talking about a route of 510 kilometers that starts in Costanza and passes through Coira, the Lukmanier Pass and reaches Ponte Tresa, then passing through the province of Varese up to Pavia, where the new route connects to Via Francigena. A lot of institutions collaborated on this project, from the communities crossed by the route to the mountain community of Piambello and the province of Varese which, together with the Lombardy region, coordinated the relationships between the other States involved, especially Switzerland.

On Saturday 30^th April there will be the official launch of the project that will be preceded by a walk from the Maglio di Ghirla to the abbey of Saint Gemolo, two of the most suggestive localities crossed by Via Francisca.

In the abbey at 11:30 there will be the conference presenting the project.

On Sunday 1^st May at a planned conference at 11:30, in the beautiful abbey of Saint Gemolo, we will talk, once more, about routes and pilgrims. The conference will be followed by a concert entitled “Mozart, the most famous pilgrim in the history of music”.
