The new nature path, dedicated to Salvatore Furia, will be inaugurated on Saturday 11 June, 2016, in the municipality of Masciago Primo. The Campo dei Fiori Regional Park and the council wanted to tidy up the old paths, which were once used by woodsmen and by soldiers going to the fortified Cadorna Line.

The path is a 5-km loop that is suitable for anyone that wants to discover the environmental, geological and historical beauty of the area.

The educational path, which goes from Valcuvia to Valtravaglia, will provide several sights: hardwood forests and glades, travertine deposits and petrifying springs, erratic boulders and canyons and gorges dug by water courses, little waterfalls and the remains of the fortified Cadorna Line.

The last path in the Campo dei Fiori Park is being named after Salvatore Furia, one of the fathers of the park itself, and an important figure in popularising science in Varese.

“There will be charts describing and illustrating the flora,” Giuseppe Barra, the Chairman of the Park Authority, explained. “They’ll be poles made by recycled plastic; this is certainly an unusual choice, but it comes from a desire not to affect the plant heritage.”

The new path was explained by the Mayor of Masciago, Vincenzo Maffei, himself. “The true wealth of our little municipality is the surrounding nature, and we must appreciate it.”

The meeting place on Saturday 11 June, is the community centre in Masciago, at 11 a.m., where the Chairman Barra, himself, and Mayor Maffei will explain the project set up also with the help of the voluntary ecological guards.
