Following the Memorandum of Understanding signed on November 3 for the realisation of a “Feasibility Study for the conversion and enhancement of the Whirlpool area”, a workshop was held today aimed at finding solutions for area re-use. About thirty representatives from industries, universities, institutions, sport and culture world attended the workshop. The work continued through all day and was well attended.

“I’m very grateful, especially to the many personalities of our country who have accepted the invitation to attend the workshop on the future of Whirlpool. Seeing everyone at the same table with the representatives of industries and municipality, of the local universities, professional associations, chamber of commerce, excellent enterprises, sports champions, representatives of the third sector, institutions with the mayor of Varese, social and health service experts, digital and communication operators and finally my friend Vittorio Cosma, made me perceive the great strengths that our territory expresses when we work as a team. I like to think that today the ‘cumenda’ has guided us by directing us to a modern and innovative future vision in which I work; welfare of people and innovation in all fields can find an overview for the revival of Comerio and its territory” said Silvio Aimetti, mayor of Comerio.

Gaetano Casalaina, Director of Whirlpool EMEA Government Relations added: “I want to thank all the 28 people among public administrators, entrepreneurs, academics, some exponents from sport culture, from the media, from experts in wine and food and from the society that joined my reflection. It was an experience which had fully met the expectations, a well-structured work session and it generated valuable information about possible new uses of Comerio’s Whirlpool site to improve the land.”

Today’s work has produced a series of solid proposals and initiatives in various fields and they will be a starting point to define scenarios of transformation, the presentation will take place within the first months of 2017.
