But why?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We received hundreds of photos of the spectacular sunset on Sunday, 29 October. Many people thought the cause was atmospheric pollution, others, in our territory, supposed it was smoke from the fire that has been blazing for three days on Campo dei Fiori. In fact, they are all wrong. The cause is totally \u201cnatural\u201d, as the meteorologist Marcello Mazzoleni explained. \u201cThe cloud type remained the same throughout the day, namely, <strong>altostratus lenticularis, which forms downwind of the Alpine chain<\/strong>, when it is swept along by winds perpendicular to it. These clouds always create <strong>this very striking, wavy effect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd\u00a0then the intense colouring\u00a0is caused by the sun\u2019s rays, which <strong>light the clouds from\u00a0below about\u00a0a quarter of an hour\u00a0after sunset,\u00a0when the sun has already\u00a0disappeared\u00a0below the horizon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe next time we might see such a beautiful sunset is Wednesday, 1 November,\u00a0when there\u2019ll be high and\u00a0medium-high clouds\u00a0that will precede the unsettled transition\u00a0next weekend&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We received hundreds of photos of Sunday\u2019s evening sky, which gave us a beautiful sight.
