SEA: “Workgroup on pollution never took off”
The company that manages the airport recalls that a meeting to discuss pollution, was held on 5 April 2011, with the local health authority, the regional environmental protection agency, ARPA, and representatives of the towns around Malpensa Airport. “We were never contacted again”.
After the position taken by the Democratic Party (that the mayors were responsible for health protection), SEA explained that a meeting was held on 5 April 2011, involving SEA (the company that manages Malpensa Airport), the Voluntary Urban Consortium (which brings together the mayors of the “airport” towns), ARPA and the local health authority of Varese; the discussions focused on the question of environmental pollution. SEA said they were willing to study the situation and to create a workgroup. After this meeting, SEA explains that they were never contacted again by the other organisations present, and that the workgroup never took off. The Democratic Party Clubs in the towns of Samarate, Ferno and Lonate Pozzolo asked their mayors how far the workgroup had got, and discovered that no information was available.
