Collegiate church of Castiglione Olgiate is the “Heart Place” in the province of Varese

The collection of signatures for “Heart Places” of FAI, which included also other places in the province of Varese, among which the collegiate church of Castiglione Olona, ended on Sunday.

This is the most voted for place in the province, the third in Lombardy and the fifteenth in Italy. This “Heart Place” collected more than eight thousand votes, to those should be added paper votes that will be calculate at the beginning of 2015. The “contest” of the Fondo Ambientale Italiano considers that the most voted places could access funding so that they are better valued. In order to calculate the votes should be added  to those obtained on the site, the paper ones, that were collected by the various organizing committees.

Until now, the top three nationwide are: the castle of Calatubo in Trapani (more than 46,000 votes), the Certosa of Calci in Pisa (45,000 votes), and the Capuchin monastery of Monterosso al Mare (25,000 votes). Regarding the province of Varese, the Collegiate church of Castiglione is followed by the Antiche Fattorie Visconti in Somma Lombardo (2,500 votes) and the Social Theatre of Busto Arsizio (1,100 votes).

Visconti Palace of Saronno ranks below with 500 votes, but its committee has announce today that they have collected 5,650 paper signatures that will be added to the other 500 online votes. This fact might ensure the second place for the Visconti Palace of Saronno.

“We are glad to announce to all citizens of Saronno, who supported the candidacy of Visconti Palace, that the total calculation of the signatures in support of the campaign

‘Heart Places’, is 5,650 votes, including both the paper and online ones,” said the volunteers. “An extraordinary result if we consider that the votes were collected in only a month and a half. We are very happy for this result that, apart from the acceptance of our project from FAI, proves the great affection and the attention that the citizens of Saronno have for Visconti Palace, which is still considered an important resource for our city and territory today”.
