Conclusive day for the World Cup in Varese and therefore the day of the final. Andrea Micheletti, the athlete of Ispra doesn’t disappoint his fans as he manages to win a beautiful silver medal in the Lightweight Men’s Pair along with fellow rower Pietro Ruta.

Only the French Delayre and Azou (yellow jersey wearers) have been able to place behind the Italian boat, and have won in the fight for second place against the British Chambers and Fletcher, that had to settle for third place.

The most anticipated Varese rower did not disappoint, being able to win a medal.

In the other finals representing Italy, there was Chiara Ondoli of Angera, in the final of the Women’s Four (non-Olympic), gets an encouraging fifth place, given the young age of the boat, composed only of under 23s. USA first, Australia second, Germany third.

Italy gets a bronze in the Lightweight Men’s Pair with Sfiligoi and Dell’Aquila, preceded by France and with Great Britain second. Only fifth instead Marcello Miani in the Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls, in the finals won by the French Houin, second the Slovak Babac and third the German Roeger.

The other rower from Varese, Sara Bertolasi, in the Women’s Double Sculls, with her partner Laura Schiavone, took third place in the B final for ninth place overall.

In the final of the Men’s Pair Italy fielded two teams and aimed at a double win. With second place, on the podium the pair Abagnale-Abbagnale while Agamennoni-Montrone finish fourth behind Australia. Gold for the Netherlands.

Silver also for the Men’s Four Italian team formed by Di Costanzo, Castaldo, Lodo and Vicinio, that in a tight race were unable to put the tip of the boat in front of the United States, but manage to beat Canada at the photo finish. To highlight how tight this race has been, just think that from first to third place there was less than a second.

At the end of the long weekend, spent on the waters of Lake Varese, the Italian national team returns home to prepare for the third round of the World Cup in Lucerne with six medals (four silver and two bronze). To win the silver in the LTA Mixed Coxed Four there was Paola Protopapa, Lucilla Aglioti, Tommaso Schettino (CC Aniene), Luca Lunghi (CUS Ferrara), and the cox Giuseppe “Peppiniello” Di Capua (CN Stabia); the Men’s Four Marco Di Costanzo (Fiamme Oro), Matteo Castaldo (RYC Savoia), Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino (Fiamme Gialle); the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls Andrea Micheletti and Pietro Ruta (Fiamme Oro); and the Men’s Pair Giovanni Abagnale and Vincenzo Abbagnale (Martina Militare). The two bronze medals came, instead, from the Men’s Double Sculls Romano Battisti and Francesco Fossi (Fiamme Gialle) and the Lightweight Men’s Pair Armando Dell’Aquila (Fiamme Oro) and Piero Sfiligoi (CC Saturnia).
