Liuc University turns 25, “we look towards our future”.
Liuc University celebrates its 25th academic year. The dean Federico Visconti says, “we are an entrepreneurial university, so we must develop knowledge, helping it spread.”
Twenty five years have passed since the inauguration of Liuc’s first academic year on 16 October 1991. But since those first 303 freshmen registering to the business economics course, time has passed, and a lot of it.
“Today’s celebration brings great satisfaction and means a lot for all those who contributed to build the Liuc project,” explains the university president Michele Graglia, “a bet that many skeptical people would have never taken.” And yet this new academic year, like the previous ones, starts with growing numbers too, given “a university who has stayed true to its original stamp.”
Among the various changes that will accompany this new year, one in particular stands out: the hiring of a new dean. Federico Visconti began his first of many years as a leader of a university characterised by “great passion for work, an optimistic look to the future, openness to changes and to challenges,” he lists, before reminding that these are not just “aptitudes and values that are important for me, but that define Liuc’s origins, its multi-year evolution and its future steps forward.”
Being Liuc’s dean will guide Visconti on a path focused on a precise theme: an entrepreneurial university. “It’s not a slogan that aims to be some kind of manifesto,” he points out, “but that aims to represent a vehicle for the sustainable development of Liuc.” It is a road that crosses the idea of “standing in front of reality and facing it with courage, looking for opportunities, getting past obstacles, growing our ideas and making our plans come true,” remarks Visconti.
It is exactly in this last sector that Visconti underlines how “An entrepreneurial university has to develop knowledge by favouring its spread.” This is translated into a significant importance of the dialectic between the scientific research and its application. It is something that Liuc has understood since a long time and it has taken shape as “an extraordinary idea and knowledge laboratories through its various research centres” becoming this way a real “transmission belt among applied research activities, spread of knowledge and training.” We will have the chance to celebrate this important anniversary for Liuc university but Federico Visconti, mentioning a passage from the Little Prince, reminds us that “we don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children: this is the spirit with which Liuc university takes care of the future.”
Indeed, this is not a coincidence if the inaugural lesson of the new academic year of a company-oriented university is entrusted to professor Vittorio Coda on the issue of happy companies.
