Woman attacked by four dogs is hospitalised
The attack happened this afternoon. Doctors say the woman has wounds all over her body. Helicopter rescue intervened.
A woman has been attacked and wounded by four German Shepherd dogs in Brezzo di Bedero. The attack happened today, 23rd March, at about 3 p.m. in Via Crocetta.
The victim, a 40-year-old Ukrainian carer who lives in this village, received wounds all over her body; an emergency response vehicle and an ambulance soon arrived and provided first aid. The medical staff then called a helicopter to take her to Varese Hospital; when she arrived, her condition was deemed to be code yellow, that is, she was in no danger of losing her life.
The attack occurred along a road that starts in the centre of the village (which is not far from Luino) and quickly reaches a wooded area. In Via Crocetta, there is a house belonging to an elderly lady, who keeps a number of dogs for protection.
What it was that caused the attack is still not clear, however, police from Luino are investigating and have reconstructed the occurrence; the woman was on her way to the 80-year-old lady, when a family of four German Shepherd dogs attacked her.
The woman is now in intensive care in the emergency room in Varese, where she will stay until tomorrow. Doctors performed intubation in order to keep her calm. The dogs bit her limbs and other parts of her body, but not her face. The type of wounds that she suffered were superficial lacerations and contusions, which caused a small amount of bleeding.
According to the mayor, Daniele Boldrini, this is the first case of this kind to happen in the village. “I know the house, but I’ve never noticed the dogs outside the gate,” he said. “We will soon take measures to verify how dangerous the dogs are.”
Following the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Varese, the dogs were taken to the veterinary service, and then to the municipal kennels in Luino.
