Snow-tyre ordinance effective from 15th November
Until next 15th March it will be compulsory to have snow-tyres or alternatively the suitable anti-slip equipment on board – the snow chains. “This measure is necessary for the security of the citizens”, explains Fontana.
The objective, as specified by the Estense Palace, is not to fine drivers, but to guarantee their security. Winter has probably come in advance with the taste of snow flakes and frozen windows yesterday, 28th October. The municipality of Varese reminds us that as from the next 15th November until 15th March, there will be effective the specific official ordinance regarding the “obligation to drive in all streets under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Varese with special snow-tyres that are appropriate for driving on snow or ice or alternatively to have in the vehicle the suitable anti-slip equipment, adapted for the type of vehicle in use.”
And not only snow, but also low temperatures have for years persuaded many drivers to use snow-tyres: in fact the road surface appears to be more dangerous when 7C° below zero for those who drive with normal tyres.
First of all this measure is needed for the security of all drivers and has the nature of preventing more than punishing, explained the mayor Attilio Fontana.
The ordinance is effective for the third consecutive year.
“The “varesini” appear to be very precise and careful, declared Fontana, yesterday we had a taste of an anticipated winter and it is better to be equipped in time.
Driving with snow-tyres means to drive better, avoiding traffic jams and discomfort in case of snowing or icy roads. To sum it up, drive in a secure way!” The local police counsellor Carlo Piatti, confirmed the strong public spirit of the “varesini”. Last year the drivers were prepared, specified Piatti. Before 15th November during the standard controls, the local police in any case will ensure to inform drivers about the ordinance.
Apart from the municipal ordinance, also the one that refers to the provincial roads is to be considered automatically renovated according to the same municipal ordinance: as from 15th November until 15th March: snow-tyres must be installed or alternatively snow-chains must be hold in the boot.
