Whirlpool relaunch with investments.
The multinational plan €1 million for the spare parts warehouse, which is in addition to the €42 million already announced. FIM, FIOM and UILM: “Yes, to the investments, no, to the lay-offs.” The next meeting is on 25 November.
It was the fourth meeting between the trade unions, FIM, FIOM and UILM, and Whirlpool‘s top managers, to discuss the reorganisation plan presented by the American multinational. During the meeting, which took place in the offices of Univa (the Union of industrialists in Varese Province), the company explained their intentions for the EMEA spare part warehouse (SPC and Costumer Service Italia) and logistics.
In the Cassinetta area, Whirlpool have confirmed the strategic role of the spare parts warehouse for Europe, Asia and Africa (EMEA), with further investments of €1 million for the two-year period 2012-2013, which is in addition to the investment, of the same amount of money, already made in the previous two years. The investment, which was announced during the meeting, will be in addition to the €42 million planned for the three-year period in the other areas of Cassinetta. The trade unions wrote, “What the company showed us entails enhancement by concentrating a number of warehouse activities, which, today, are distributed around the region.”
After this initial phase of examining the industrial plans for the area of Cassinetta as a whole, the trade union delegation confirmed their positive assessment of the overall investments, and appreciated the choices concerning the maintenance and enhancement of some activities, but confirmed their negative assessment of the declared lay-offs and closure, albeit gradual, of the side by side sector.
The parties established a calendar of meetings to continue the exchange of views and discussion; the dates are 25 November, and 2 and 13 December.
