Incomes: Varese ranks eleventh in Italy

Varese is eleventh in the ranking made by the Sole 24 Ore regarding the average incomes declared in 2008. With a total income of 1,472,183,205 euros and an average income of 24,045 euros, the “città giardino” is well ranked in the list and is the fifth province capital in Lombardy after Milan, Bergamo, Monza and Pavia, respectively first, second, third and fourth. Ten of the province capitals ranking in the first 20 places are in Lombardy with the exception of Cremona and Sondrio.

 

The 2008 Italian cities income ranking list confirms the split between the north and the south. The first city of “the hit parade” that is located below the Rubicone is Fiesole in Florence. The Tuscan town, though, is listed 51 places after Medea, in the province of Gorizia, which comes first with 54,000 euros in average per taxpayer. The capital, which is the leader in the southern metropolis is only at the 108^th place. However, Rome managed to remain in the top ten of the province capitals: it is in fact in the ninth place. The gap with Milan – 17th place in the general ranking, but at the top of the province capitals –  is quite evident: 24,500 euros vs 30,000 per capita, in average.
