Town councillor cleans graves for free
The idea have come from Danilo D’Arcangelo, who will provide his services for the elderly. “Last year, some crafty folk charged as much as €80; at most, we’ll accept donations for social services.”
Cleaning the graves in the cemetery, to help those who cannot do it, to be closer to the elderly, or be willing to carry out maintenance of the place where a loved one has been laid to rest. This is the idea that, with the support of the whole town council, “Popolo della Libertà” councillor, Danilo D’Arcangelo has put into effect. “Last year, we received reports that some people at the cemetery were charging as much as €80 to clean the graves of love ones,” the councillor explained. “Now, I’ve told the council that I’m willing to do this free of charge, for anyone unable to clean to place.”
“We immediately approved this idea, because we thought it was very useful and a good way of supporting the people, something that Councillor D’Arcangelo has always tried to do,” said the Mayor, Stefano Candiani. “Of course, anyone that wants to make a donation will be free to do so, and, as the councillor himself has said, any money we collect will be used by social services.”
And so, Mr D’Arcangelo is going to equip himself with broom, bucket and cloths, and go around the cemetery to advertise his services. But this is not all, he will also be available by phone. “Just call the council and ask for the service,” he explained. “We still haven’t found a name for this project, but that’s not important. What counts is being close to the people, particularly the elderly, who, on the occasion of the commemoration of the dead, would like to be close to their loved ones, with this service, too. I’m proud to be able to help them and the town. In the meantime, in agreement with the council, I’m also going to clean the forgotten graves, which, over the years, have become covered with dirt.
