Ranco, the town that recycles the most in the province

Legambiente has compiled the chart: in the Lombard Region’s top ten, no part of the Varese area. Out of the towns with more then ten thousand inhabitants, Tradate, Saronno and Cassano Magnago have excellent results.

RancoIn Lombardy, the number of towns which excel in the waste separation system is decreasing.  According to the chart compiled by Legambiente about  “towns that recycle”. At a regional level, the Pavia province appears appears late, but it is bad also for the regional capital Milan and Brescia.

Looking on the bright side, San Giorgio di Mantova is the unquestionable winner of the towns that recycle in Lombardy, edition 2011. The little commune beat all to get the first place thanks to a good management index of  78.20 and thanks to a high percentage of waste separation  (82.7%).

At the second place of the general chart  we find Roverbella, (Mantova province) with a management index of  78.01, and at the third place Travagliato (Brescia Province), with a score of 77.88.

A good situation for the province of Varese, despite  no commune being in the “top 10” of the virtuous towns. Our province  is instead at the third place for the presence of “towns that recycle”, that is they have overtaken the thresholds fixed by Legambiente. At the first place there is the province of Cremona, then Milan and followed by Varese, with 56 towns out of 141.

In detail, at  a general level , the best commune of the province considering the good management index of 73.81%  is Ranco, with a waste separation system equal to 74.7%. In second place Monvalle with an index of 73.68 (waste separation 66.8); at the third step on the podium Tradate (index: 72.12, waste separation: 72.12). In the Varese province top ten the towns follow in order: Arsago Seprio, Travedona-Monate, Osmate, Cunardo, Inarzo, Morazzone, Besnate.  All these towns are fairly little and they  overtake 65 per cent of the waste separation system.

More curious, the ranking for the 50 “virtuous” regional communes with more than 10 thousand inhabitants. The winner, as mentioned, is the city of Travagliato. To find the provincial towns of Varese, we see them in fifth place with Tradate, or 13th with Saronno (index 67.24; differentiated 67.8). Cassano Magnago rests at 17th (index 65.58; differentiated 74,4). Followed by Gallarate in 21st place; Sesto Calende 26th, Fagnano Olona 33rd, Caronno Pertusella 40th, Samarate 46th and Induno Olona 47th.

For this ninth edition of Municipalities Who Recycle The Most In Lombardy, Legambiente has raised the minimum thresholds in order to be ranked among the righteous. The association this year has brought them to 60% recycling with more than 10 thousands inhabitants and 65% for the smaller towns, thus anticipating the requirements that the law makes it compulsory from next year.

The conclusion of Legambiente for next year is bad, “If we examine the totality of the Lombard people it is worth mentioning that only 274 municipalities already reached 65% of RD, a goal that would meet the minimum target to be achieved taking  into account the objective of recycling 50% required by EU Directive 98/2008. Unfortunately there are another 348 Lombard cities, 22.50% which separate less than 35% of their waste products, so even without reaching the target set by the Ronchi Decree for 2003.”
