Bidding continues with direct negotiation procedures

Maurizio Gentile, the CEO of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, has said he is confident. “Work on the construction of the Arcisate-Stabio rail link will start again by the end of July.” Of course, this is what everyone is hoping, despite the frequent bad news from the construction site. The latest, of a few days ago, came when bidding for the contract to restart the work ended with no decision.

However, according to the CEO of RFI, this outcome had been among those expected, and now, the second phase of bidding is starting with a different approach. “As permitted by the procurement code, in this second phase, we’re going to summon all of the companies involved in the call for bids, and through direct negotiations, to discuss with each one the design issues and the reasons why bids weren’t made.”

At the end of this procedure, which, according to Gentile, will end in a few days’ time, the contract may be allocated and, “in accordance with the time schedule given to the mayors, work could start again by the end of July.”
