Unemployment decreases in Switzerland and in Canton Ticino
In March the data about the labour market reported a slight improvement. In the district of Locarno the number of people without a job has decreased by 1.4%.
In March, unemployment decreased in Switzerland and in Ticino. According to the dataspublished by the Administration which deal with the economy of Switzerland, the rate has decreased to 3.2%, against the 4.3% of February. At the end of the month 126,392 people were recorded as unemployed at the Regional Employment Exchange, 6,762 less than the previous month. In Canton Ticino, the unemployment rate has decreased from 5.3% to 4.8%, while in the Grisons from 1.8% to 1.6%.
Young unemployment (15-24 years) affects 17,450 people, 1,630 less (-8.5%) than February. The most significant decrease of unemployment was recorded in Locarno, where the unemployment rate has decreased by 1.4%.
There are also reductions in the other district, in which the Canton Ticino is subdivided, with decreasing in the unemployment rate between 0.1% and 0.5%, except the district of Blenio. The districts of Riviera (5.2%), Bellinzona (5.1%), Lugano (5.0%) and of Locarno (4.9%) are the most affected in the Canton Ticino, with an unemployment rate which is higher than the average (4.8%).
