Giorgio Zanzi has met the mayors of the towns in Medio Olona. The increase in robberies in towns situated along the river has been denied but the coordination between the Municipal Police and citizens is needed.

One thing is the perception of citizens, sometimes exaggerated by the news, but figures are a different matter. The result of the meeting between the Prefect Giorgio Zanzi and the mayors of Medio Olona is clear, there is no alarm of robberies, as the towns in Valle Olona are not more concerned by this problem than other towns in the province of Varese and figures show a general fall in committed crimes. Whereas, as far as the number of robberies are concerned, the situation is not homogenous in all towns, but the gaps are not significant compared to the average percentage of the province for the same crime, which is 1 robbery every 186 inhabitants. However, it is commonly known that one and only citizen hit by this awful crime shocks more than 185 citizens who live quietly.

Anyway, the Prefect wanted to meet, together with the provincial representatives of the Law Enforcement, the mayors of Cairate, Castellanza, Fagnano Olona, Gorla Maggiore, Gorla Minore, Marnate, Olgiate Olona and Solbiate Olona, who had asked for the meeting and presented a series of initiatives to improve the safety of the citizens, reasonably in alarm. Proved the fact that it is pointless to create an unnecessary alarm, the participants in the meeting focused on finding possible initiatives and joined solutions to limit and prevent the phenomenon. The Prefect has defined the presented plans as “a concrete contribution from all mayors representing the peculiarities of every local situation and they allowed to share an articulate plan of joined intervention to prevent and reduce the phenomenon.

Five points have been approved in Villa Recalcati: the prosecution and the improvement of the project of integrated video surveillance among towns, equipped with targeted remote-control with the Stations of the Arma dei Carabinieri, and an awareness raising campaign of shops, restaurants and bars to access more to the“video surveillance” project activated by Confcommercio and Confesercenti; the activation of a special plan of coordinated services of vigilance and control on the part of law enforcement, with the support of the Municipal Police in the territories ofMedia Valle Olona towns; more forms of synergy of the services provided by the Municipal Police Departments with the extension of the existent agreements among towns; more commitment from citizens through information and participation in targeted training and information encounters with the law enforcement, dedicated to particular groups of population, such as old people, who are often victims of frauds and scams.
