From Cantello to Dumenza, here are Italy’s Inns of “Varesotto”

They are five Italy’s inns of “varesotto” (province of Varese). In the 2014 edition of the famous guide the following are recommended: the Barchet of Monteviasco, Smeraldo of Dumenzia, Nerito Walter of Cantello, La Rava e la Fava of Busto Arsizio and the Osteria dei Peccatori of Gallarate.

Among them, no new entry, the latest are the Brachet, the Smeraldo of Dumenzia or the Osteria dei Peccatori, already in the 2013 edition and reconfirmed this year. But there are also regulars of the gastronomic guide, that suggest the places where you can eat well at a reasonable price, one of the most appreciated from foodies: as for example the “Nerito Walter” inn of Cantello ( in the photo, with a less recent edition of the guide) or, “La Rava e la Fava” of  Busto Arsizio.

“The value of these heroic restaurateurs has to be recognised, they hold high the food service of this type in a not particularly advantageous situation” comments the Slow Food trustee of Varese Claudio Moroni. “The inns are places that are a peculiarity of their region, know their producers, their costumers and everybody works together to give us good and healthy food”.

Barchet, Smeraldo and La Rava e la Fava also belong to the “Alliance between chefs and Slow Food Presidia”, restaurants that use constantly in their menu at least Slow Food Presidia, that are typical products of a specific region endangered and for this reason protected. With them, in the province of Varese, there are also Molino del Torchio (Cuasso al Monte), Scibui (Saronno) and Tana d’Orso (Mustonate – Varese).
