Airports, the Region is “interested” in involvement in SEA and SACBO

The question is being discussed, even after Europe rejected the Lupi Decree, which was in danger of burying Malpensa Airport. Maroni is willing to collaborate.

La nuova Malpensa

Will the Region get involved in the companies that manage the airports in Lombardy? “Work is underway, the Region is not involved in SEA or SACBO, but we are interested in getting involved, in order to improve the airport system in Lombardy.” Roberto Maroni, the President of Lombardy Region, repeated this in answer to the questions of journalists at the end of a press conference on tourism held at the Pirelli Building. Already in the past, the Region had put forward the idea of getting involved in the management companies; in the meantime, the possible merger of SEA and SACBO is making headway.

The issue became highly topical again after the rejection of the Lupi Decree, which had been criticised by part of the political world (including the leaders in the Region) because of the danger of repercussions against Malpensa. The question was openly resumed by Maroni, who is at odds with the government: “We want to stop the scandalous practice of letting foreign airlines come here and collect our passengers, to take them to the European airports and, from there, all over the world,” the President explained.
