The “Laura Prati” Association is established, to continue her battles

At Quarto Stato, there was a party atmosphere on Saturday afternoon, as if it were a get together with friends. And in some way it was, because it was an important moment: the official creation of the “Laura Prati” Association. Relatives, colleagues and friends of the mayor who was killed in the shooting on 2 July 2013 (and who died a few weeks later, after her condition worsened) created the association, with a private deed. Many founding members queued up to join.

“We chose to do this here, because in some way this was also Laura’s home, and we hope it will be home for her ideas,” said Enrico Franzioni, the club’s president. The goal of the association, which is stated in Article 3 of the Statute, is to promote women’s dignity, to encourage the success of women, to promote equal opportunities and to fight gender stereotypes.”

All of this will be pursued through prevention projects, courses on affectivity and sexuality, action to overcome gender inequality, also by supporting women entrepreneurs,  promoting research on these issues and studying the figure of Laura Prati. Together with her family, with her husband Pino (see photo) and their son Massimo, there were also family friends, colleagues on the council, representatives of the PD, the political party of which she was the Provincial President.  A few hours before the signing, the Assistant Public Prosecutor, Nadia Calcaterra, said she had concluded the inquiry of the incident, in which Laura Prati was murdered and Costantino Iametti was wounded by Giuseppe Pegoraro.

During the meeting, there was the election of groups that will remain in office for about three months, until the association opens up to other members.

The Chairperson is the PD senator, Erica D’Adda, and the vice Chairperson is Adriana Scanferla. The board includes Erica D’Adda, Giuseppe Poliseno, Barbara Scampini, Adriana Scanferla, Enrico Franzioni, Vittorio Letizia, Fabrizio Sala, Irina Martines, Paola Torno, Rita Gaviraghi, Sara Magnoli, Daniela Tomasini, Maria Scandroglio, Maria Chiara Gadda and Giuseppe Musolino. The first public event will take place at the end of May/ beginning of June, with the presentation of a book dedicated to Laura Prati and to other female figures.
