A plunge into the Middle Ages, with the Bosino “Palio”

This year, the Bosino Palio returns to the Middle Ages, with jesters, flag-wavers, and even a medieval encampment, making next weekend special for the people of Varese.

Straight from Siena, Jester Jocoso will be hosting the events, including the Bosino Palio between the town centre and Piazza Monte Grappa, on Saturday 8 May, in his provocative, fun, somewhat poetic and musical way; he will interweave stories, performing in numerous guises, in the courtyards and streets, playing tricks, making statements of profound wisdom or extreme folly, a master of dances and games; he will also perform magic, eat fire, and can even swallow a whole sword.

Also on Saturday, during the historical procession in the morning and afternoon, the flag-wavers Fenegrò will throw flags up into the air, to a height of several metres, filling the sky with colour to create an original spectacle.

The historical encampment will be set up on Sunday, at the “Bettole” Racetrack: soldier training, duels and crafts can be seen throughout the day, allowing the audience to experience a part of the Middle Ages. The association Historia Briantea will be presenting, to both young and old, what life was like in the 13th century: the intention is to demonstrate the life, values, clothes and combat. The company is interested in the aspects of the military and negotiating, showing the audience their “warriors” in combat, dressed in faithfully reproduced costumes and armour, as well as the life of the soldiers and people inside the commune, and of some figures that followed the army about, such as, the women who brought food to the soldiers.
