Trade unions claim: “Do not sell off Finmeccanica!”

After the public Board meeting of the most important Italian industrial group, Fim, Fiom and Uilm protest against the "unbundling of the group".

Fim, Fiom and Uilm warn Finmeccanica: they do not want any excuses called either financial difficulties or a stop to dividends. Metalworkers are worried, because the group’s staying on the safe side might indicate further rearrangements. "We are worried, and we oppose the fact that economic difficulties are used to justify the reorganisation of the group’s industrial perimeter, through assignment of assets and off-shoring of activities that are and must remain a professional and industrial legacy of Finmeccanica and of our Country." we can read in a statement by the national secretariats.

Metalworkers are worried about the possibility of a divestment plan amounting to 1 billion Euros, of cuts in investments expected for 2012, of a strong reduction of structural costs which, in 2012/2013, purportedly amount to around 140 million Euros. "We are ready to face, as we’ve always done, the problems connected with the efficiency and competitiveness of the companies, so that they can be ready to take a leading role in the markets, but at the same time we oppose choices that would only result in the reorganisation of the group." the secretaries of Fim, Fiom and Uilm add.

So, trade unions remain opposed to discussions about ceding of companies and reduction in the workforce that they deem to be important and essential for the whole industrial system of Finmeccanica and that if pursued, they might give way to those who "have been waiting for a  long time to unbundle and privatise a group that, for what concerns technology, professionalism and strategy, must be saved for the good of both workers and the Country.

We renew our invitation to open a labour dispute on these topics as soon as possible."
