Amid a thousand difficulties, Sister Marcella is working among the Haitians
The missionary is working at the mission of Father Giuseppe Durante. Despite the shortages of food and water, she is there setting up a field hospital. This is the news from the association Kay-La, this evening in Piazza San Giovanni to collect funds.
The work of Sister Marcella in Haiti continues, despite the thousand difficulties these days in distributing aid in the Caribbean country, after the terrible earthquake, a fortnight ago. This news was given by the association Kay-La. The missionary is now in Croix de Bouquetes, on the outskirts of the capital, Port au Prince, at the mission of Father Giuseppe Durante, where a field hospital is going to be set up. At the moment, a football pitch is being used to accommodate and treat those with only minor injuries. Sister Marcella is also involved in distributing food and water, although, unfortunately, these are now in short supply, and are very difficult to find.
Sister Marcella has visited the shanty town of Waf Jeremie, where she met the young volunteers of the nutrition program “A hope for Job”, again; they are well, apart from a few minor injuries. They immediately got down to work with her, helping to distribute food in the shanty town.
Marcella also visited the families of children in the nutrition program, finding that the children had grown and were in fairly good condition. Everyone that has offered to come to Haiti as volunteers should be informed that effort is being made to organise everything through an NGO working with Sister Marcella. For the adoption or sponsorship of children, the association is unable to provide any precise information at the moment. This evening, Sister Marcella’s home town, Busto Arsizio, is going to burn its Gioeubia (the effigy of a witch, burnt as part of a Lombardy festival) and the town council will be collecting funds in Piazza San Giovanni, while plates of the traditional dish of “polenta e bruscitti” are being distributed.
