Workshop for do-it-yourself cyclists is inaugurated

Be passionate about bicycles! The Italian environmentalist association, Legambiente, and the federation of bicycle enthusiasts, Fiabciclocittà, have opened the “ciclofficina”, a do-it-yourself workshop, to satisfy the growing interest in bicycles. “But there aren’t many cyclists who know how to do even small repairs,” explained Danilo Crosta, a member of Legambiente, who runs this mini-workshop for repairing “normal” bicycles, together with Franco Cuccuro, every Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. “We don’t want to compete with cyclists at all,” Crosta added. “We provide the service for enthusiasts, families and children, anyone that doesn’t know how to change a tyre. A lot of people don’t even know how to use the gears …”

 

Potential customers also include foreigners, for whom this is often a popular means of transport. We have made some special cards, in foreign languages, to publicise our service. In addition to carrying out repairs, it is possible to get to advice and tips about good practices in bicycle riding. “Cyclists occasionally ignore the simplest rules of the road, although it’s drivers, in particular, who think they own the road.”

 

With their screwdrivers, spare parts and valves, the Legambiente and Fiabciclocittà technicians also revive old models. “We accept bicycles that are ready for the scrap yard. We repair them and make them available for anyone that wants to borrow them to travel around town.”
