Winter tyres or snow chains on board: “Zero tolerance this year.”
Tonight at midnight the winter driving rules come into effect. Fines vary depending on the road. According to the Province, strict checks and fines for offenders will be guaranteed.
Forewarned is forearmed: today 14 November, at midnight, the ordinance by the Province for winter tyres or snow chains on board comes into effect. And this year, unlike 2010, it will not be a bed of roses. This has been announced by the provincial councillor for traffic Aldo Simeoni: “The agents of the provincial police will be inflexible: last year it was a novelty, and thanks to the media, but, actually, also thanks to the good driving education shown by drivers, there weren’t problems of any sort.”. Of course, positive checks carried out by the provincial police had agents being easygoing and turning a blind eye… “Exactly: last year we were forgiving. But this year, because the ordinance is just around the corner (and truth being said, it was never renewed as it comes into force automatically), we will be inflexible.”.
Therefore, starting from tomorrow 15 November, according to the ordinance, it will be mandatory to carry snow chains in the boot, or, alternatively, to fit at least two winter tyres depending on the drive (front-wheel or rear-wheel).
Otherwise? “Otherwise, people who are caught breaking these rules will have a hard time: zero tolerance.” the councillor concludes, in Roman dialect. “I also want to remind people that the ordinance is into effect also during sunny days like this one.”.
The provincial police is ready to act. From Villa Recalcati’s command, also the amounts of the fines have been disclosed: a fine of €80 for provincial roads outside built-up areas, and a fine of €39 for provincial roads that pass through built-up areas.
These fines are identical to those for town roads: also Varese’s town council, in fact, has issued the very same ordinance that will come into effect tonight.
