Uto Ughi inaugurates the academic year: “Art and science must coexist”

 His hair is messy, he looks distracted, he is able to convey emotions not only through his violin, but also through his words. Uto Ughi and his elegance bewitch the audience at the inauguration of the Academic Year at the LIUC University in Castellanza. This 23rd academic year seems just the beginning compared to hundreds-year-old universities, but LIUC has managed to climb up the charts and place itself among the best universities in Italy. Master Ughi was asked to focus the reflections for the beginning of this year on the unpredictability of art that comes from pure love, "and that can only be improved by study and method," pointed out Mr Ughi in his address. Mr Ughi didn’t lack in underlining that creativity lays even in the field of technique and science, just like what happened in the case of Leonardo Da Vinci or Piero Della Francesca. For this reason, he pointed out, if these two features go hand in hand, they reveal themselves as genius.

The person who opened the ceremony was the Chairman of LIUC, Michele Graglia, who confessed that he studied to play violin and he graduated at the conservatory. The entrepreneur also showed a vinyl record which was given him when he graduated. The Rector Valter Lazzari had to resume the year that has just finished and to reveal news about the next year for the university and its students. His whole speech was focused on the idea of community, a word that Lazzari never forgets to say since he has become Rector. The representative in Board of directors, Simone Mangano, talked for the students, while the introductory lesson for the professors was made by Carlo Noè, Director of the Industrial Engineering Department.

The ending of the ceremony was intense, with master Uto Ughi who answered questions from the participants in a direct conversation in which they talked about harmony, sense of incompetence, culture and politics. Ughi has been very clear about Renzi, “In his victory speech he said that culture will be one of the priorities, but everybody says this when he wins and until now nobody has taken care of this issue. Italy was one of the leaders in classical music and today it has only the RAI’s orchestra. Beijing has 10 orchestras, Japan 12.” Ughi, who is from time immemorial supporter of the free spread of culture (also high), revamped the plea for the lack of orchestras in Italy and of opportunities to spread classical music. When a citizen of Busto, the town with the highest number of classical music fans in Italy, says this, it is certainly a concerned plea.
