“La Varese che vorrei”: 80 well-known people from Varese dream about their city

80 answered to the roll-call of the photographer Alberto Lavit, artist and cultural worker from Varese who presented in his Spazio Lavit a book that he intensely wanted: "La Varese che vorrei" edited by Charlotte Orsi Mazzucchelli and printed at Grafica Essezeta.

"An operation that was born as a form of love and homage to Varese," highlighted Lavit. The book contains texts, projects, photos, sketches, poems, short stories by 80 personalities of the cultural environment of Varese who were stimulated by the question: "what kind of Varese do I want? ". A cause for reflection that brought the birth of  ideas dedicated to the garden city and the Province of Varese, in the broadest sense. Proposals of renovation, restoration, decoration, change, simple dreams and great utopias.

"The soul of this book is culture," said the journalist Andrea Giacometti during the presentations of the event dedicated to the book  "La Varese che vorrei" designed and coordinated by Alberto Lavit and which contain eighty different contributions. "Culture is one of the most badly treated things in Varese, whereas it should be a central element for the city. In the book there are very different positions with ideas of the city in different view points. "

"The quality expressed by this book is very high,” commented Giuseppe Armocida at the conclusion of the event. “Varese is small, pretty and welcoming, those are some of the adjectives used when the province was born in 1927. The view of the contributions is interesting but then what kind of conclusions can be drawn. Many talk about things that already have happened and some talk about the things that will never happen. Maybe we should talk about what kind of  Varese we would like. I wish this book was also appreciated for its aesthetic quality and that will not circulate only as a thinking Varese. "

The project have also a fundraising objective: the profit from the sales of the book will be in fact destined for a social and a cultural service. The book was produced with the sponsorship of Lions Varese Host, the Associazione Culturale Parentesi and the contribution of the Fondazione Comunitaria del Varesotto.
