Maroni speaks about terrorism: “A moderate Islam doesn’t exist”
According to the Governor of Lombardy, what happened in Belgium during the most recent attacks means that this situation cannot be solved through the supervision of police and intelligence.
Terrorism, religion and immigration are the topics of the analysis of President of Lombardy Roberto Maroni, who was the guest of a soiree organised by “Giovani Padani” (young supporters of Lega Nord) in Lega Nord’s headquarters in Piazza Podestà. The situation is serious and there are not any future adequate initiatives of reaction.
Maroni’s analysis starts with a clear and radical assumption: “A moderate Islam doesn’t exist,” explained the former Minister of Interior, “and even if it existed, there couldn’t be any religious authority that is able to prevail and to say which Islam is right and which one is wrong. What we need today is a reaction.”
According to the Governor of Lombardy, what happened in Belgium during the most recent attacks means that this situation cannot be solved through the supervision of police and intelligence: “The terroristic organisation which we are dealing with act in a different way from the past,” Maroni affirmed in front of an audience of young supporters of Lega Nord. There isn’t any trackable coordination that can be followed and intercepted, but there are inactive cells composed of people who have grown up here, among us, and who, at a certain point, respond to an obligation and become terrorists. The reaction against these people can’t be integration anymore, as someone says.”
According to the Governor, the reaction cannot come neither from Europe nor from the Church, as in the past : “We must react immediately and block the entries in our country, by stopping the fluxes of the incoming illegal immigrants, and by showing an iron hand against those who are already known as possible extremists today. They must be stopped, interrogated and expelled.”
