Luciano Porro is the new mayor

The centre-left governs again the town; there will be also a majority at the council and the “mess” of last year will not be repeated

Luciano PorroThe commune of Saronno is celebrating shouting “Luciano Luciano”. In this way more than 300 people in the Commune received Luciano Porro, at the end of the second ballot when he won with more than 52% of the votes (all electoral news and results). The centre-left candidate, who is supported by the Democratic Party, Italia dei Valori, Socialist Party, Left of Saronno, Tu@saronno, defeated Michele Marzonati, the candidate of the centre-right coalition (supported by Popolo delle Libertà, Lega Nord, Unione di Centro, Saronno Si-Cura, Diamo più forza all’Italia).

Many fans of every political faction have congratulated the new town mayor knowing that now he has got a majority in the town council. The “mess” of last year will not be repeated, in that the centre-right town councillors resigned after 15 days causing the resignation of Porro (an anomaly of the electoral system allowed a mayor of centre-left with a majority of centre-right).

When he arrived, Porro embraced his opponent, Marzonati, immediately. “We will need the help of everybody we should consult the town councillors of the minority. Saronno can’t look to the past, we have to think about solving the problems that we will find ahead of us,” said Porro. “A great mayor won,” added Marzonati, “and he will govern the town with capacity, while I will do a constructive opposition. Certainly, we will realise a new way to do politics, with collation and discussions.” Then, the new mayor, who was excited, entered the commune, where there was more than an hour of embraces and handshakes. With a megaphone, he thanked everybody; “Together we can change,” he said, “it was our slogan and will be our aim. There will be difficult moments, but together we can improve the town.”

Of course, two factors have been fundamental: the split from the centre-right of the former mayor Gilli who presented himself with the list Unione Italiana, and the alliance of the centre-left with the list Tu@Saronno of Angelo Proserpio.

“We have attained a very important target, it will be a change of mentality, particularly towrads problems” comments Proseprio “ 10 years of centre-right government are many, light years for the troubles that we have to solve and to anticipate. Our important work is precisely to anticipate it, not go in pursuit of it. We have to govern by creating a continuous participation, with citizens , with associations and with the territory. My part, observes Pierluigi Gilli, first of all, are the best wishes for a good work to the elected Mayor, now with the majority, and like that, able to govern the city: maybe every cloud has a silver lining; now, unlike 19 months ago, there are the conditions for stability. With the role assigned to us from electors, both I and Annalisa Renoldi will live carefully and without prejudices the Administration that today is beinginaugurated:  we will all research the good of Saronno, although with sensibility and different functions; it’s time to pay attention more to what joins us than what separates us, in particular in moments so difficult.”

The democratic Party confirms to be the first party of the city, obtaining at the first ballot the 28% of consensus. It will have 13 members of the board on the majority of 18. “It’s a result that makes us proud” says Nicola Gilardoni, city secretary of Pdl. Citizens need a change immediately. Certainly it is also the merit of the internal breakup in centre-right.”

“It was fundamental the abstention”, adds Ciro Sconamiglio, one of the 2 coordinators of the city of Pdl, that wasdefeated in these elections. Decided the half of the electors. The self-criticism of the Party will come, but we need to re-form ourselves. We didn’t expect this result.

“Someone wanted an internal war” adds Raffaele Fagioli, city secretary of Lega Nord, “we are satisfied and we will continue in our actions. A centre-left wins because of the break in the centre-right. Saronno it is not a centre-left city from the point of view of the electoral. Anyway good luck to the Mayor. For us we will double the members of the board, we have maintained the growth of the last year.” A comment arrives also from the Pdl. MEP . Lara Comi: “I would like to express my own thank-you and appreciation to Michele Marzorati for the faithfulness, coherence that he used to brave the electoral competition, for his engagement and his determination,” says Lara Comi. To the new Mayor Porro I say my biggest good luck for a good work, reminding him about the commitments that he assumed in the electoral campaign, offering to him my availability in Europe for a collaboration free of ideologies and for the common good.”
