Quality is the main characteristic of Gocce, the programme which is returning to Varese for the fifth year, with an innovative selection of Italian theatre. There are nine dates, from December to May, bringing to town a programme that is in no way inferior to the Milan scene.

This morning (Wednesday, 7 December), Mayor Davide Galimberti, the artistic director Adriano Gallina and the President of Filmstudio’90 Giulio Rossini, presented the fifth season. The performances will be at the Cinema Teatro Nuovo, which has always welcomed the town’s cultural innovations.

Gocce is a programme that we appreciate very much, it’s an important initiative,” Mayor Galimberti explained. “Varese has proven to be very active culturally, and our administration is working to provide more and more funds for the activities.”

The programme, which is part of Convergenze, contains performances that are different from the town’s theatrical offer, in order to involve an increasing number of people, especially young people. “We want to keep going, even though what we’re offering is not so commercial or easy to ‘sell’,” Adriano Gallina explained. “We started five years ago with small audiences, and today, we have a good number of subscribers. We’ve slowly succeeded in getting even those people who would go to Milan to see shows like these.”

Gallina continued, “This programme provides moments to think and to reflect, and has its own public function. So, we hope it will soon be included in a cultural policy that seeks to create systems for the town. I believe that, thanks also to the involvement of this administration, we can create a theatre system for Varese. What I’m thinking about, for example, is the possibility of creating general subscriptions, but also much more.”

“It’s a programme in which every show is chosen, one by one,” Rossini explained. “We’re proud of what we’re offering and we hope to reach a young audience.”

The programme starts on Thursday 22 December, at 9 p.m., with the Brugnano – Maselli – Zatta Company and the show “Parole, Parole, Parole”, and continues with Arianna Scommegna, Mario Perrotta, Fausto Russo Alesi, Fabio Banfo, La Carrozzeria Orfeo, Il Teatro Reagenti, the Carullo-Minasi Company, and Ascanio Celestini.
