In Switzerland, minarets appear on fire brigade’s website

Hackers in action: they sabotaged the system of some websites. Result: photos of Islamic places of worship have appeared on home pages.

The websites affected include those of the Lugano fire brigade, of Rabadan (the Carnival of Bellinzona), and even of a sporting association in the Canton Ticino. In the last few hours, all of these have had one thing in common: their home pages have opened with a photograph of a minaret.
The recent controversy, that arose after the vote last Sunday, in Switzerland, which said “No” to the building of new minarets, has led to a response by a number of hackers, who have protested by altering the home pages of websites. The news has been published by a number of Swiss newspapers.
According to the online newspaper “tio.ch”, today, 3 December, at about 3 p.m., there were approximately “a hundred” Swiss websites under attack, although it appeared, from a rapid search of the main information websites in German and French (Blick, 24 Heures, Le Temps), that these had not suffered any intrusion. However, there had, indeed, been an attack by hackers, at least against the websites mentioned, and the deed has become the talk of the Internet. Important websites are “protected”, however the attack was made against two servers that host several hundred Swiss websites, including some from the Canton Ticino. So, the controversy that arose after the vote a few days ago, has returned to the front pages of newspapers, after the stand taken by the Vatican and numerous European political forces. The news today is that Turkey and Pakistan have asked Switzerland to reconsider, and the UN has judged the vote “clearly discriminating”.
