If anything is changing, in these parts, it is the unexpected flow of Chinese authorities and investors looking for business opportunities with Varese. This morning, it was the turn of a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce in Shaanxi, a province in north, central China, involved in the national project “The New Silk Route”, one of the economic objectives of the Republic stated by President Xi Jinping, which involves all of the country’s chambers of commerce.

The aim is to establish infrastructure to reduce the commercial and transport distances with Europe, but not only. There is also the idea of establishing stronger bonds with areas and regions with a strong economic vocation.

The Shaanxi province is seeking to establish the European headquarters of the project in Varese, and is looking for a building, in the area, in which to set up offices. Over the last few months, other delegations have also been to Busto Arsizio, Malnate and Cairate. [photo 491373]

“I hope you can appreciate out territory,” said Mayor Fontana. “The long-lasting relationship that binds your country to ours can be made stronger with mutual exchanges and useful ventures.” Around the table, there were the council, and Dario Nocerino, the CEO of Archos (the company that promoted the visit to Italy). In addition to expressing her thanks, the chairwoman of the project, Chen Li, explained that “All roads lead to Rome … and then to our city, Xi’an.”

She then added, “I have fallen in love with Varese thanks to Dr Nocerino. I hope we can establish a long-lasting relationship, also in the field of commerce. We’ve studied the industry in your territory; we’re interested in exchange, in the very spirit of the project of the New Silk Route.”

A few days ago, a Shenzhen delegation were guests of the town, and 45 top managers practised sport on the lake and on the mountain, led by Mister Shi, the owner of Vanke, the largest property company in the country, which is present at Expo, with a fiery red pavilion, in the shape of a dragon’s scales. Mayor Attilio Fontana has been contacted by another delegation, who would like to meet him on 30 October.

Today, the men and women of Shaanxi went to Palazzo Estense, to meet the municipal administration. Seeing a red leaflet with Mandarin writing in the Estense Hall is curious, if we consider that just a few years, maybe even months ago, the topic of anti-Chinese customs duties was being discussed by Northern League politicians.
